Short Stop Donuts

October 17, 2014

Stomp_0093

I have fallen in love. With Short Stop. Their donuts are just so divine. I have been lucky enough to try four of them now, over a couple of visits and shared with friends. The cruller you see above, an Australia honey & sea salt donut, is so so so good that I can’t explain it here. I have also had their cinnamon and cardamon – one of the best donuts I’ve ever eaten – while also sampling apple, maple & bacon, earl grey & rose and red velvet. So far each time I’ve had something different and all have been a delight but the cinnamon and the honey & sea salt are hands-down-favourites. Thank you Short Stop. Trust me, I’ll be back.

The Gasometer Hotel, Collingwood

September 19, 2014

Stomp_0086

Gasometer Hotel is an awesome gastropub on the corner of Smith Street and Alexander Parade. They have a great live music venue out the back, with a retractable roof for summer! Their food is also amazing – see the cauliflower hot dog above. And I mean, just look at the steak below! This was another of my Time Out Melbourne spots and I highly recommend dropping past this place, especially on a chilly Melbourne day, as I did, because that fireplace is phenomenal.

Footscray

September 9, 2014

footscray 06_Blog Amanda Summons

You never know what you are going to discover in Melbourne! Emma and I came across this beautiful wall just near Footscray Community Arts Centre. We couldn’t resist taking a few photos with beautiful wall and because it was raining, the umbrellas came out for a few too. Even a jumping photo was taken below. It was a lovely afternoon exploring an area of the city that I don’t know well as we also visited The Reverence Hotel, 8 Bit (both of which I have blogged about recently) and Savers. Got quite a few cute dresses from there too. I love my city and I love how I still don’t know all of her and you never know what you will find around the corner.

The Reverence Hotel, Footscray

September 7, 2014

Blog Amanda Summons_0025The Reverence Hotel was another stop for me with Time Out Melbourne. It was to celebrate these guys, Matt and Melanie, winning Publicans of the Year. They were just lovely to shoot and meet and I’m so glad they won that award. Their pub is awesome – my boyfriend loves going to all the gigs there and I am smitten by their tacos. And there is even a pub dog! Jack! He is so loveable and gorgeous and you should visit just for me so if you are over on that side of the city, definitely drop past because you can’t go wrong here.

This is probably my favourite burger in Melbourne. I desperately want to go back. It is also my favourite burger joint because look! Hama Beads! These two photos can’t do justice to how awesome it was – I couldn’t even take many photos because I was just too hungry for that epic deliciousness! Suffice to say, just got there and try it for yourself.

General Store, CBD

September 4, 2014

Stomp_0082

General Store & Co. is a quirky bar in the Melbourne CBD that has a giant Statue of Liberty built out of Milk Crates! And that is just the beginning! Along with the beautiful giant red lady are rooms built out of taxis, fire hydrants as seats, gas pumps as decorations, barber shops as small intimate rooms, courtyards with beautiful fairy lights, bathtubs as tables and hanging chairs. Even upstairs is a vintage American postbox. This is definitely a place to visit, even if just to have a sticky-beak at all of the awesome details. Even if you do that, they also have awesome drinks so you will be happy you stopped by. This was another bar that I visited while working for Time Out Melbourne, and you can see a few more of photos over there.

Tru Bru, South Yarra

September 2, 2014

Stomp_0071

Tru Bru is a quirky little place, another that I covered for Time Out Melbourne. It is a place where you can buy bottles of draught beer and cider, that normally is only sold in kegs. It makes craft beer so accesible. And the cider was really great too. Anton Sagan is the owner and he got the idea when at the Ringwood RSL because “they wouldn’t sell me draught beer to take home, so I filled my own under a table. I was desperate.” It is definitely worth a visit, as Anton is so lovely and even convinced this non-beer drinker to have a few sips and not hate it!

Boston Sub /Jungle Boy, Windsor

August 30, 2014

Stomp_0053

Another place I visited while working for Time Out Melbourne was Boston Sub and her hidden bar, Jungle Boy. I really loved this place. The food was delicious – I had to come back again because the pork one was just amazing. The bar out the back was so quirky – even though it was lunch time, I desperately wanted a Tiki cocktail! I highly recommend this little hole-in-the-wall place but I’ll let the photos do the talking.

Federation Square, Melbourne

August 29, 2014

IMG_0830_Blog Amanda Summons

As a freelancer, some days I work in an office and some days I work from home. While this can be annoying at times when I’m craving stability, one of the awesome bonuses of this is that on those days I’m working from home, I can really work wherever I feel like! Yesterday was one of those days. I had quite a bit of work to do but the sun was shining and I didn’t feel like working indoors. But I didn’t have to because of the awesome Fed Sq, right in the heart of Melbourne. I worked in the square for a lot of the day, soaking up the sunshine on deckchairs and then spent the rest of the day (when I needed a powerpoint) at the Time Out Cafe.  I even ran into some friends who I used to work with at Melbourne Writers Festival, which was lovely. You can spot their yellow sings in some of the photos below. So all in all, a good day was had because I got all my work done and got to see the sun!

Los Amates, Fitzroy

August 26, 2014

Stomp_0050

Melbourne is the home of the amazing breakfasts but one that is a bit different is this one at Los Amates, Fitzroy. I had the pleasure of shooting this delicious meal of Mexican coffee, chilaquiles and the Los Amates Bloody Caesar for Time Out Melbourne. It looked as delicious as it was. I really enjoyed shooting different things, through my internship at Time Out earlier this year. Quite a few of my photos made it into the print magazine, which was an incredible honour and now I can say I am published photographer. Soon, I’ll start sharing a few more of these shoots, of bars and restaurants around Melbourne.

5 star review  Amanda is an amazing photographer. Her ability to capture an individual or couple and bring life to their photos is really special. I had some professional shots done by her and she made me look and feel confident and authentic. Couldn't recommend her more!
