Federation Square, Melbourne

As a freelancer, some days I work in an office and some days I work from home. While this can be annoying at times when I’m craving stability, one of the awesome bonuses of this is that on those days I’m working from home, I can really work wherever I feel like! Yesterday was one of those days. I had quite a bit of work to do but the sun was shining and I didn’t feel like working indoors. But I didn’t have to because of the awesome Fed Sq, right in the heart of Melbourne. I worked in the square for a lot of the day, soaking up the sunshine on deckchairs and then spent the rest of the day (when I needed a powerpoint) at the Time Out Cafe.  I even ran into some friends who I used to work with at Melbourne Writers Festival, which was lovely. You can spot their yellow sings in some of the photos below. So all in all, a good day was had because I got all my work done and got to see the sun!

August 2013

September 3, 2013

august2013blogIt is finally spring here in Melbourne which means that August is over. The last month of winter didn’t feel like that to me, given that it started off in Bangkok and ended with mid 20s weather in Melbourne. However, that very first night back from Bangkok, I did go to Soccer training and it was raining and 7.5 degrees! This month’s highlights are Bangkok to start with of course, but the month also included the launch of the sixth issue of the magazine I’m involved with, in Brief, with my image on the front cover, delicious food as usual, planting flowers, saying goodbye to Emma for 5 months as she goes on exchange in Denmark, and hanging out with my dogs. The best part of the month, though, was the Melbourne Writers Festival. It ended on Sunday, so September 1st so next month’s calendar will have the last little bit of it, but the end of this month was entirely shaped by the festival. I was at the festival every day of the 11 days (my favourite number!) save one because I fell ill from being so exhausted! It was an incredible experience. There were over 300 events in the festival and even though I was there almost every day, I only went to 50 of them! And that felt like a lot! It was a great organisation to be part of and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

So that was August 2013! Now onto September!

Melbourne Writers Festival

Rookie Day AJS 4

This year, I have been lucky enough to intern at the Melbourne Writers Festival. One of my favourite events that I have been to so far is Tavi Gevinson’s talk last Friday night. Tavi is a blogger, a journalist, an actress, an editor and most of all a teenage girl. Her speech about #fangirling was really inspiring and just made me proud to be a girl. I can’t do justice to her speech in just a few words here, but it was an amazing experience and I loved sharing it with my beautiful friend Berlin. Estelle Tang interviewed her after the speech, and my photos capture a few moments between the two very lovely ladies.

The line outside in the rain was also crazy but filled with beautiful girls in flower crowns!

Melbourne Writers Festival

July 19, 2013

MWF Launch | AJS Photography 1

Last night, the Melbourne Writers Festival launched its program. I’ve been lucky enough to be interning there for the last few months and last night was the culmination of a lot of preparation and nerves. While the festival does not start until late August (hence about a month from now), it was really exciting to finally tell the world what we have been working on. You can head on over to the website to have a browse of the awesome events on offer – I know I already knew which events I’ll be going to. Tavi and Boris Johnson are high on the list!

Lisa, our director, gave a great speech – that’s her above. To me, I’d already heard what was on offer, but it was exciting to hear everyone’s reactions to who was coming to the festival. Well done Lisa and all of the team! It’s been a pleasure working with you so far and I cannot wait for the festival to start.
